Institute of AI welcomes BCS research on public trust of algorithms

An important new survey published by BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, has revealed that “the majority of people do not trust computers to make decisions about any aspect of their lives.”

Results showed that “(53%) of UK adults have no faith in any organisation to use algorithms when making judgements about them.”

We welcome this important research. To reap the benefits of algorithms and artificial intelligence we have to ensure citizens trust the technology and the decisions it makes. Legislators around the world must work more quickly to agree common regulatory standards to facilitate scrutiny and win that trust.
